Mesquite Canyon 50 Mile: DNF #2

I could talk about how bad I slept the night before.
Or about how my ankles hurt.
Or about how my stomach started sloshing 30 minutes into the race (again).
But the truth is that anyone can push through those problems.
Hell, most people probably did.
At the top of the second climb, around mile 17, I started walking.
I looked out to the valley.
I started running the weeds through my fingers.
I brushed my hands over the giant rocks as I passed by.
I closed my eyes and felt the breeze against my face.
I knew I could place 3rd, 2nd or even 1st if I just kept running.
But what's that mean?
I didn't want to run anymore.
